Where advanced grade courses are aimed at boat handling and navigational skills, the elective courses are directed at specific marine areas. Elective courses include Marine Electronics, Engine Maintenance, Sail, Weather, Cruise Planning, and Instructor Development
Marine Electronics
This course offers essential information about boat electrical and electronic systems. It is taught in a non-technical mode, and it keeps you up to date on the many advances in this always changing area.
Engine Maintenance
1st Lt Walter Kirk will be teaching an Engine Maintenance Class starting on Monday, May 2 at 7pm at the SHARE Center. This class is a must for BOC. Outboard, inboard, gasoline, diesel-- all are covered, in addition to power trains and related mechanical systems. Learn how to solve common problems on your own.
Sail
A two part course that covers all the fine points of handling a sailboat, from sun fish to an ocean going yacht.
Weather
A course teaching the fundamentals of weather systems – you won't replace Al Roker, but you will become a knowledgeable forecaster.
Cruise Planning
This course teaches you how to prepare for an extended cruise, either domestically or to a foreign port.
Instructor Development
This course teaches practical techniques for making effective presentations. This course is offered on a “no-charge" basis.
