A new Inland Navigation Certification Program is now being added and is described and linked below.

This is a two (2) part course building on the basics taught in the Boat Smart course and extending into more sophisticated boating activities. It will take 9 evenings in all to complete.
During 2010, there are spring and fall seamanship courses planned. The dates and location will be announced once the classes are scheduled.
Piloting
The piloting course includes the fundamentals covered in Chart Smart and the basics of in-shore (within sight of land) navigation. It will take 9 evenings to complete and it requires plotting tools.
Advanced Piloting
Using the Piloting course as a basis, this course extends beyond the piloting course to more sophisticated methods, tides and currents and electronic navigation. It will take 9 evenings to complete.
Junior Navigation & Navigation
This courses cover celestial navigation in depth. On completion of Junior Navigation, you will be able to navigate across the ocean without electronic equipment. The Navigation course goes deeper into these concepts with more extensive theory and additional practice. A squadron owned sextant is available for students in either of these courses.
Inland Navigation Certification Program
The Inland Navigation Certification Program has been developed by USPS National Education in conjunction with and approval from the US Coast Guard and State Boating Administrators, and it complies with United Nations Resolution #40, International Certificate of the Operation of Pleasure Craft. This certification is the 1st level leading to Coastal Navigation and Offshore Navigation.
