HERE’S OUR TENTATIVE SCHEDULE FOR 2012 with room for more based on your interests:

As you can see we have an aggressive agenda for 2012.  Please let me know if you are interested in BOC (Boat Operator Certification) so we can get you started in the right classes.

Seamanship

This is a two (2) part course building on the basics taught in the Boat Smart course and extending into more sophisticated boating activities.

In Spring 2012 a Seamanship Class will begin and go for approximately 6 weeks.   It will be held at the SHARE Center.   Those interested in taking the class please contact Leslie Gilroy (see below).  This is the first class new members usually take after joining the HHS&PS. It provides more in depth information about boating in general. It is a continuation of the ABC class.

Piloting

The piloting course includes the fundamentals covered in Chart Smart and the basics of in-shore (within sight of land) navigation.    Lt Ron Winarchick will teach the Piloting Class starting on April 18th @ 7pm at the SHARE Center.   This Course will cover a lot of material that is required for Boat Owner Certificate, BOC.    The second and remaining classes will be on Thursdays at 7pm at the SHARE Center, starting on Thursday, April 28th. Ron will let you know how many weeks the class will run.   Let me know if you want to take this course.

Advanced Piloting

Using the Piloting course as a basis, this course extends beyond the piloting course to more sophisticated methods, tides and currents and electronic navigation.

Junior Navigation & Navigation

This courses cover celestial navigation in depth. On completion of Junior Navigation, you will be able to navigate across the ocean without electronic equipment. The Navigation course goes deeper into these concepts with more extensive theory and additional practice.    A squadron owned sextant is available for students in either of these courses.

Inland Navigation Certification Program

The Inland Navigation Certification Program has been developed by USPS National Education in conjunction with and approval from the US Coast Guard and State Boating Administrators, and it complies with United Nations Resolution #40, International Certificate of the Operation of Pleasure Craft.    This certification is the 1st level leading to Coastal Navigation and Offshore Navigation.
